Helen Rowson (1955-2021) created this modern-day stone monument near Strathpeffer, Scotland. Construction took place over a four-year period during the early 1990s, in conjunction with Scotland's Forestry Commission. Helen was born in Birmingham, and studied geology and oceanography in Liverpool, earning Masters and Doctorate degrees. She was a powerful swimmer as well, and became the British champion at several middle distances. She was a chemistry teacher, and built interactive playgrounds for physically and mentally disabled children. Helen was also active in the theater, and performed at many events all across the United Kingdom. Her interest in Pictish traditions had a profound influence on the Touchstone Maze's design.
